A sensor is a mechanism that determines a physical quantity and converts it into a signal which can be read either by an instrument or person. Sensors can be found throughout the scientific world and laboratories process and analyse a multitude of different samples. There are vast arrays of substances, materials and condition parameters that require measurement within laboratory environments.

In the case of automation, sensors have varied uses from error detection and sample identification to system operation and quantification. In short, sensors play a key, pivotal role within laboratories.

Deeter design and manufacture sensors used within scientific arena including medicine and life science.

Typical Scientific or Laboratory Applications:

  • Water purification
  • Liquid inventory, waste and media management
  • Cryogenic liquid storage and dispensing systems
  • Liquid gas storage
  • Solvent and chemical control

Liquid level Sensors:

Reed switches are commonly used within automotive sensor applications.

For liquid level measurements, for example for fuel tank level sensing, the Reed switch use a magnetic float that adjusts with the liquid surface, actuating a hermetically sealed switch in the stem. This simple and comparatively low-maintenance design installs readily; minimizes shock, vibration, and pressure; and works with a variety of fluids, not just petrol.

Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) Level Sensors:

LN2 is commonly used within laboratory processes and for sample storage. The boiling point of LN2 is 196C with a density of 0.807g/ml.

LN2 uses include:

  • in cryotherapy and cryogenics
  • for the immersion, freezing, and transportation of food products
  • for the cryopreservation
  • to freeze water and oil pipes / cryogenic isolation
  • to shrink-weld machinery parts together
  • as a coolant
